It was early this morning of October 17th, 2001. I was rushing to get the kids ready for school and myself ready for work. Suddenly the phone rang.
Before I go any further I have to fill you in on a few things. My birthday is October 3rd, and my brother Paul's birthday (who now lives in Florida) is October 17th. I am two years older than him so October 17th has always been a special day in my life since I was a very little girl and became the "big" sister. Each year we call each other on our respective birthdays and wish each other a happy day. This year he and his wife had forgotten to call me on my birthday two weeks ago on October 3rd.
Back to this morning: I answered the phone and suddenly I hear a man and woman singing "Happy Birthday to you....Happy Birthday to you.........". I start smiling. My mind is racing. It must be my brother Paul and his wife Nancy calling ME from Florida on HIS birthday since they forgot to call on October 3rd. That would be something they would do. But wait, then I hear the following:
Happy Birthday ALAN JACKSON.... Happy Birthday to you!!! Turns out it was my neighbors across the street. They know what a huge Alan Jackson fan I am, and they had been reading the local morning paper and it had listed October 17th as Alan's birthday. So they decided to call and sing to me, since they couldn't of course call him. It was such a cute thing to happen that it had me smiling the entire day. I still had a grin on my face that night when I called my own brother to wish him a happy birthday as well.
