I was one of the lucky ones to get thru on the phone that night too. I got thru at the very beginning but they didn't let me ask my question until almost the end of the show. I was so crazy on the phone waiting, not sure if I would even be one of the people for sure to ask a question. I too wrote down what I wanted to say and practiced it over and over. My kids thought I was nuts!! I felt like a teenager getting ready to talk to a boy she has a crush on or something. I was so afraid I would mess up. However, I got to hear most of the show before it was my turn and realized that those who said Hi to him first would usually get a response BY NAME from Alan. So I made sure to say Hi, Alan. And he did say Hi Hope, and then starting singing the song High Hopes. I also really wanted to tell him how much it had meant to me and my family when he had stood up for George Jones earlier that month on the awards show. It was not part of my original question that I told the person who was monitoring the calls about, but I said it anyway. I was afraid they might cut me off and never let me ask my question. But when I said it, there was silence for a second, then everyone there starting cheering, and Alan said, "Well Thank you Hope!" Then I proceeded to ask my question which was about how he decided which songs to sing at which concerts. He gave a pretty long answer. I could hear it over the phone like he was just talking to me as well as over the sound system, but about 3/4 of the way thru, they disconnected the call. What an experience....a remembrance I will never forget!
